Scurrying to sit next to the boss? Well, now, that might not be possible We have a manager's meeting twice a month. Biggest SOUP (BSU) always scampers in to sit next to the boss, who of course is at the head of the table. One time, I had had a private meeting with Boss before the main meeting and so had my computer at that BSU's fave next-to-boss spot. When I came back from the john, my computer had been shoved over so BSU could park his buns next to Boss.

I and my colleagues have an agreement. We get there 5 minutes early, and take the seats closest to Boss, leaving BSU at the far end of the table (Siberia). He's tried to get in even earlier, but our rooms are auto-locked until the person scheduling the meeting swipes in (shared conference space). So, I've changed over the meeting host to myself and swipe in ten minutes before, where four of us plant our computers in those magic four seats, then I swipe out of the room, relocking it. Even he won'

He's taken to dialing in on video now, so that his fat face can be seen directly opposite of Boss. It's still really funny, and we've expanded the sit-block to more members of the team. And every once in while, the video fails. Ah, well.

goodlifesomehow 39 min. ago I used to show up exactly 2 minutes late to any conference room meeting when our CEO was in attendance, until he finally told me to stop flexing. After that, I started showing up early with a plate of food and sit in CEO's preferred seat before he got there.

To be clear, these were not lunch meetings; I was just flexing on the CEO. He was eventually forced out, but I'm still here. Being a menace is better than being the BSU, as long as you're really good at your job.

Resident-Syrup7615. 1 hr. ago Seems like they all wanted to sit next to the boss. I mean I suppose it's possible that all of this is for the "one time" BSU moved an unattended computer of one of the people involved, but it also seems like they all want to sit next to the boss and are now putting more effort into it than BSU ever did. To me this seems less like petty revenge and more like petty office politics. IDK -10 Reply Share

Resident-Syrup7615. 1 hr. ago I'm not saying they don't dislike the guy, but I'm saying they appear to be using their dislike of the guy to justify working collectively to give themselves the advantages that they don't think should go to a guy with a fat face. They did think BSU was getting an advantage by sitting next to the boss, right? Seems like they would also think that they would that advantage if they sat next to him.

Out-of-phase-360. 58 min. ago I hear you, but I honestly don't think that's the case. But neither of us will ever know the real truth anyway

Right-Designer5399. 9 min. ago You are the BSU at your job I'll bet. It's irritating to see someone of equal status sit next to the boss like he's the right hand of god. Bet your face is on the heavy side, too.

Resident-Syrup7615. 1 hr. ago And maybe the reason the four of them teamed up against the one guy is because he's fat. Why mention his fat face?
